SHEPHERD SPLITS WITH SENATORS

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Shepherd College split a doubleheader with Davis & Elkins in WVIAC softball action at Shepherd on Sunday afternoon. The Rams earned an 11-3 win in the first game, while Davis & Elkins took a 12-10 victory in the nightcap.
Shea Sirbaugh (Berkeley Springs/Berkeley Springs, WV) and Angie Jeffries (Fauquier (FCC)/The Plains, VA) each went 2-for-3 and drove in two runs to lead the Rams. Jessica Sturgill (North Harford/Whiteford, MD) was 2-for-2 with two RBIs, while Beth Vickers (Jefferson/Kearneysville, WV) was 1-for-1 with two runs scored.
Freshman pitcher Becky Porter (James Buchanan/Chambersburg, PA) scattered eight hits over five innings to gain her second win of the year. She also recorded four strikeouts.
The Senators scored 11 runs in the first inning of game two behind five hits, four walks, and a pair of Ram errors. Casey McNiesh's two-run single highlighted the inning.
Paula Tomblyn and Susan DeBiase each went 2-for-4 to pace the Senators. Tomblyn's sister, Sarah, gained the complete game win.
Jeffries led the Rams with a 2-for-3 outing in the nightcap. Carrie Cline (Central/Edinburg, VA) and Vickers each drove in a pair of runs.
Shepherd moves to 5-4, 3-3 in conference play, while Davis & Elkins is now 3-9, 1-3. The Rams return to action on Friday when they travel to Charleston for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
