ANDERSON TOSSES NO-HITTER; SHEPHERD SWEEPS COLUMBIA UNION

Shepherd swept Columbia Union in Martinsburg on Tuesday night.

MARTINSBURG, W. Va. -- Shepherd College swept a doubleheader from Columbia Union in softball action at Charlotte Prather Field in Martinsburg. The Rams took a 18-0 win behind Christee Anderson's (Martinsburg/Kearneysville, WV) no-hit pitching in game one and rallied for a 13-12 victory in the nightcap.

Anderson recorded seven strikeouts and only allowed two base runners in the game.

Shepherd used six hits, three Pioneer errors, and 15 walks to plate 18 runs. Vickie McGilton (University/Morgantown, WV) and Amanda Fleming (Hancock/Hancock, MD) each had two hits to pace the Rams.

Anderson came on in relief in game two to gain her second win of the day.

Angie Jeffries (Fauquier (FCC)/The Plains, VA) singled home Jessica Sturgill (North Harford/Whiteford, MD) in the bottom of the seventh to break a 12-12 tie and give the Rams the victory.

Mara Kafton (Martinsburg/Martinsburg, WV), Beth Vickers (Jefferson/Kearneysville, WV), and Fleming each had two hits to pace the Rams in the nightcap

Shepherd improves to 14-13 overall, while Columbia Union falls to 5-9. The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Salem International for a 1:00 p.m. conference doubleheader.
