SHEPHERD ADVANCES AT WVIAC TOURNAMENT WITH WIN OVER CONCORD

VIENNA, W.Va. -- Shepherd University advanced at the WVIAC Softball Tournament with a 7-1 win over Concord on Friday at Jackson Park.

Senior infielder Megan Zahnow (Berkeley Springs, WV/Berkeley Springs HS) and sophomore infielder Jodie Sites (Moorefield, WV/Moorefield HS/Potomac State) each went 2-for-3 to lead the Rams. Sites drove in four runs and scored one, while Zahnow added an RBI.

Freshman outfielder Rae Johnson (Stafford, VA/Colonial Forge HS) and sophomore outfielder April Przygocki (Frederick, MD/Frederick HS) each scored a pair of runs for the Rams.

Samantha Simons scored Concord's only run with a solo blast in the seventh. She had a pair of hits in the game.

Junior pitcher Mia Zappacosta (Owings Mills, MD/McDonogh School) struck out five and scattered six hits to improve to 7-9. Nicole DePauw took the loss for the Mountain Lions.

Shepherd improves to 25-26 on the year.
