SHEPHERD SPLITS WITH CONCORD

ATHENS, WV--Shepherd University split with Concord in WVIAC softball action at Concord on Saturday afternoon. The Rams gained a 2-1 win in game one, while Concord rallied for a 7-6 in the nightcap.

JoJo Small (Old Fields, WV/Frankfort HS) went 2-for-3 and Megan Zahnow (Berkeley Springs, WV/Berkeley Springs HS) was 2-for-4 to pace the Rams. Erika Nagy (Damascus, MD/Damascus HS) was 1-for-3 and singled home Mia Zappacosta (Owings Mills, MD/McDonogh HS) with the winning run in the sixth inning.

Jennifer Pollinger and Misti Neel each had a pair of hits to lead the Mountain Lions.

Karen Burnette (Yorktown, VA/Tabb HS) had five strikeouts en route to her fifth win of the year. Ashley Jackson took the loss for Concord.

The Mountain Lions scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to take a 7-6 win in the nightcap.

Ashley Sisk went 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs to lead the Concord.

Nagy went 3-for-4 and Zappacosta went 2-for-3 to pace the Rams. Julie Scherpf (Berkeley Springs, WV/Berkeley Springs HS) and Kelly Carpenter (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro, HS) each added two hits.

Kristen Robinette gained the win in relief for the Mountain Lions, while Shepherd's Megan Hall (Keysville, VA/Randolph-Henry HS) had four strikeouts in a losing cause.

Shepherd moves to 21-20 overall, 14-7 in WVIAC action. The Rams return to action on Sunday when they face Bluefield State for a noon doubleheader in Athens in the regular season finale.
