
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. -- Concord College swept Shepherd College in WVIAC softball action here on Saturday afternoon. Concord took a 12-3 win in five innings in game one and earned a hard fought 4-2 victory in the nightcap.
Concord smacked 13 hits and took advantage of five Ram errors en route to a 12-3 triumph in game one. Dawn Barker and Ashley Jackson had three hits to lead the Mountain Lions. Jackson also added four RBI. Carrie Cline (Central/Edinburg, VA) went 2-for-3 to pace the Rams. Sara Rosboschil (Hayfield/Lorton, VA) was 1-for-3 with a pair of RBI and a run scored. Jackson hurled the first four innings to gain the victory, while Karen Burnette (Tabb/ Yorktown, VA) suffered the loss for the Rams. Shepherd took a 2-0 lead in the nightcap with two runs in the first inning. Mara Kafton (Martinsburg/Martinsburg, WV) led off with a single and scored on a triple from Cline. Cline later scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Jennifer Canby (Martinsburg/Martinsburg, WV). Amanda Thee's two-run double in the third tied the game at 2-2. Concord added a run in the fifth when Ashley Sisk lifted a sacrifice fly to plate Amber Haynes, who led off the inning with a bunt single. The Mountain Lions added an insurance run in the seventh to gain the sweep. Barker went 3-for-3 to pace the Lion offense. Jessica Burton (Stone Bridge/Ashburn, VA) and Kafton had two hits apiece to lead the Rams. Concord starter Emily Peterson picked the win, while reliever Jennifer Rinehart notched the save. Christee Anderson (Martinsburg/Kearneysville, WV) took the loss. Shepherd falls to 2-9, 0-6 in WVIAC play. The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they host Salem International for a 2:00 p.m. doubleheader.Game One
