RAMS GAIN SPLIT WITH CONCORD

ATHENS, W. Va. -- Freshman pitcher Becky Porter (James Buchanan/Chamberburg, PA) tossed a five-hitter in the nightcap to give Shepherd College a split with Concord College in doubleheader softball action at Concord on Sunday. Concord took a 9-4 win in the first game, while the Rams earned the split with a 10-2 triumph in the game two.

Concord used a 15-hit attack to power past Shepherd in game one. The Mountain Lions posted a seven-run third inning to highlight the win.

Vickie McGilton (Universiity/Morgantown, WV) had three hits and three RBIs to lead the Ram offense.

Porter limited Concord to five hits in the nightcap as the Rams earned the split. Porter moved to 4-0 on the year with her second straight five-hitter. She has not allowed a walk in the past two games. The game ended after five innings due to the eight-run rule.

Amanda Fleming (Hancock/Hancock, MD) had three hits and scored two runs to lead the Rams in game two. Mara Kafton (Martinsburg/Martinsburg, WV), Shea Sirbaugh (Berkeley Springs/Berkeley Springs, WV), and Kim Virts (Loudoun Valley/Hamilton, VA) added a pair of hits. Virts also drove in three runs, while Jessica Sturgill (North Harford/Whiteford, MD) and Chrissy Ashley (Loudoun Valley/Lovettsville, VA) each added two RBIs.

Shepherd moves to 7-6, 5-5 in WVIAC action, while Concord goes to 1-7, 1-1. The Rams will host Frostburg State on Monday in a non-conference doubleheader. Action will begin at 1:00 p.m.
