SHEPHERD SOFTBALL DROPS THREE AT CATAWBA INVITATIONAL
SALISBURY, NC -- Shepherd University dropped their final three games in softball action at the Catawba Invitational Tournament. Shepherd dropped a 14-3 game to Barton late Saturday night and also fell to Mount Olive (9-1) and Wingate (8-0) on Sunday.
Ram starter Stephanie Sims (Mt. Airy, MD/Glenelg HS) took the loss against Barton, while Claire Sevent gained the win for Barton.
Senior outfielder Jenn Canby (Martinsburg, WV/Martinsburg HS) scored Shepherd's lone run against Mount Olive in the first inning when she doubled and later scored on a error.
Georgette Richardson and Bailey Hamell each homered to lead the Mount Olive attack.
Ram starter Karen Burnette (Yorktown, VA/Tabb HS) (0-2) took the loss, while Shaun Conway gained the win for the Trojans.
Wingate pitchers Ashley Green and Brittany Taylor combined for six strikeouts en route to a 8-0 Bulldog win in five innings. Green gained the win, while junior pitcher Mia Zappacosta (Owings Mills, MD/McDonogh HS) (1-1) took the loss for the Rams.
No further game details were available.
Shepherd (1-4) returns to action next weekend when they travel to the Snowbird Classic in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
