RAMS FALL TWICE AT CATAWBA TOURNEY

SALISBURY, N.C. -- Shepherd University dropped a pair of games at the Catawba Softball Tournament on Sunday. St. Andrews Presbyterian earned a 13-9 win, while Queens (NY) gave the Rams a 5-1 setback.

The Rams pounded out a season-high 15 hits against St. Andrews, but the Knights prevailed with a 13-9 triumph.

Mika Tanji gained the win for St. Andrews, while junior reliever Megan Hall (Keysville, VA/Randolph-Henry HS) took the loss.

No other game details were available.

Crystal Wilson went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer, and Jessica Paparelli was 2-for-3 with a solo blast to lead Queens past Shepherd.

Sophomore third baseman Mia Zappacosta (Owings Mills, MD/McDonogh HS) singled home junior second baseman Megan Zahnow (Berkeley Springs, WV/Berkeley Springs HS), who had reached base on a double, for Shepherd's only tally.

Paparelli gained the win for Queens (2-2), while Zappacosta (0-2) took the loss for the Rams (0-5).

The Rams will return to action on Thursday when they travel to McDaniel College for a 2:00 p.m. doubleheader.
