RAMS DROP THREE AT CATAWBA TOURNEY

SALISBURY, N.C. -- Shepherd University dropped a trio of games at the Catawba Softball Tournament on Saturday. Limestone College handed the Rams a 9-0 loss, Lenoir-Rhyne took a 5-2 win, while Pfeiffer downed the Rams, 10-5.

Sophomore third baseman Mia Zappacosta (Owings Mills, MD/McDonogh HS) singled and junior first baseman Brooke Small (Herndon, VA/Herndon HS) doubled to lead the Rams against Limestone.

Ram starter Karen Burnette (Yorktown, VA/ Tabb HS) suffered the loss, while Keisha Powell picked up the win for Limestone.

Taylor Queen and Alexis Kreske had two hits apiece to lead Lenoir-Rhyne to a 5-2 win. Brooke Starnes added a home run for the victors.

Small paced the Rams with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate.

Kristen Duvall gained the win over L-R, while Zappacosta took the loss for the Rams.

Jody McCurdy had three hits to lead Pfeiffer to a 10-5 triumph.

Zappacosta was 2-for-4 and Small was 2-for-3 to lead Shepherd against the Falcons. Shepherd rapped a total of 12 hits in the game, but also stranded 12 base runners.

Etta Tate gained the win for Pfeiffer, while freshman pitcher Stephanie Sims (Mt. Airy, MD/Glenelg HS) took the loss for the Rams.

Shepherd (0-3) will complete tourney play on Sunday with games against St. Andrews and Queens.
