SHEPHERD SPLITS SECOND DAY TOURNAMENT ACTION

VIENNA, W. Va. -- Megan Hall (Randolph-Henry/Keysville, WV) tossed a one-hitter to lead Shepherd College to a 2-0 win over Bluefield State in second day action of the WVIAC Softball Tournament. Alderson-Broaddus later handed Shepherd a 6-2 defeat to eliminate the Rams in the double elimination tournament.

The only hit allowed by Hall against Bluefield State was by pitcher Jessica Sarrett. Sarrett took the loss for the Lady Blues.

Jennifer Canby (Martinsburg/Martinsburg, WV), named an honorable mention WVIAC All-Conference selection on Thursday, scored both Shepherd runs. Canby scored in the first inning on a double from Carrie Cline (Central/Edinburg, VA), and later scored in the second on a fielder's choice off the bat of Mara Kafton (Martinsburg/Martinsburg, WV) .

Katie Roush scored three runs and added a double to lead Alderson-Broaddus to a 6-2 win.

Beth Vickers (Jefferson/Kearneysville, WV) ripped a two-run double in the sixth to plate Shepherd's only runs. Canby and Brooke Small (Herndon/Herndon, VA) recorded two hits each.

Beth Guzzi scattered six hits to pick up the win for the Battlers. Karen Burnette (Tabb/ Yorktown, VA) took the loss for the Rams.

Shepherd completes its season with an 8-24 record, while Alderson-Broaddus improves to 24-23.
