
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. -- Bluefield State College swept Shepherd College in WVIAC softball action here on Friday afternoon. The Rams dropped a 10-7 decision in the first game and suffered a 5-3 setback in the nightcap.
Kim Irvine went 3-for-4 with three RBI and Danielle Lyle was 2-for-4 with three RBI to pace the Bluefield 13-hit attack in game one. Jennifer Canby (Martinsburg/Martinsburg, WV) was 2-for-5 with three RBI and Christee Anderson (Martinsburg/Kearneysville, WV) added a 3-for-4 effort to pace the Rams. Mara Kafton and Jessica Burton each added a pair of hits. Bluefield reliever Jessica Johnson picked up the win, while Anderson took the loss for the Rams. Shepherd had a 2-1 lead in the nightcap until Bluefield rallied for four runs in the sixth inning to gain the sweep. Liz Ruberg and Jessica Sarrett each had RBI-singles to key the Bluefield comeback. Rubert led the Lady Blues with two hits and a pair of runs scored. Canby went 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored to lead the Ram offense in game two. Shepherd falls to 2-7, 0-4 in WVIAC play, while Bluefield State improves to 2-11, 2-0. The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Concord for a noon doubleheader.Game One
