BRIDGEWATER, VA--Bridgewater College swept Shepherd College in softball action at Bridgewater on Thursday. The Eagles edged Shepherd 2-1 in eight innings in game one and blanked the Rams 5-0 in the nightcap.

Jo Jo Small (Old Fields, WV Frankfort HS) scored on a sacrifice fly from Mia Zappacosta (Owings Mills, MD/McDonogh HS) in the eighth to give the Rams a 1-0 lead.

Bridgewater took advantage of two Ram errors to gain the win in the bottom of the frame.

Karen Burnette (Yorktown, VA/Tabb HS) tossed a one-hitter with four strikeouts for the Rams in a losing cause. Marlo Howell scattered four hits to gain the win for the Eagles.

The Eagles plated four runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to gain a 5-0 victory in the nightcap.

Carla Boelle threw a five-hitter to record the win for Bridgewater, while Megan Hall (Keysville, VA/ Randolph-Henry HS) went the distance and took the loss for the Rams.

Shepherd falls to 1-8, while Bridgewater improves to 7-4. The Rams return to action on Friday when they host McDaniel College for a 2:30 p.m. doubleheader.
