SHEPHERD SOFTBALL KNOCKS OFF ALDERSON-BROADDUS
PHILIPPI, W.Va. -- Shepherd University knocked off Alderson-Broaddus, 7-4, in nine innings in softball action at Alderson-Broaddus on Wednesday night in game one of a doubleheader. The win over the Battlers, currently ranked eighth in the Great Lakes Region, was the first for Shepherd since the 1995 season. The Battlers earned a split with a 7-2 win in game two.
Senior first baseman Brooke Small (Herndon, VA/Herndon HS) drove in four runs, including a three-run homer in the ninth inning to give the Rams the win.
Mary Ann Thompson went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer in the sixth to lead A-B. Jenna Paulus also went 2-for-3.
Junior Mia Zappacosta (Owings Mills, MD/McDonogh HS) gained the win in relief of senior starter Karen Burnette (Yorktown, VA/Tabb HS). Jenny Campbell took the loss for the Battlers.
No game details of the nightcap were available.
Shepherd moves to 19-19, 8-4 in WVIAC play, while Alderson-Broaddus is now 27-14, 12-4. The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host West Virginia Wesleyan for a 2:00 p.m. conference doubleheader.
