A-B SWEEPS SHEPHERD

MARTINSBURG, W. Va. -- Alderson-Broaddus swept Shepherd College in WVIAC softball action at Charlotte Prather Park on Wednesday. The Battlers won game one with a 5-0 shutout and held off the Rams in the nightcap for a 5-4 triumph.
Casie Waskey scattered five hits and recorded 10 strikeouts to pick up the win for the Battlers in game one. Shepherd starter Megan Hall (Randolph-Henry/Keysville, VA) took the loss. Jennifer Canby (Martinsburg (Wheeling Jesuit)/Martinsburg, WV) led the Rams with a 2-for-3 effort with a double and a single. Beth Vickers (Jefferson/Kearneysville, WV) and Carrie Cline (Central/Edinburg, VA) each added singles. Shelley Randolph and Amber Morrison each had a pair of hits to lead the Battlers. Shepherd took a 2-0 lead in the first inning of game two when Canby and Mara Kafton (Martinsburg/Martinsburg, WV) singled and later scored. A-B took a 3-2 lead in the second by taking advantage of three hits and a pair of Ram errors. The Rams knotted the game at 3-3 in the fourth when Brooke Small (Herndon/ Herndon, VA) led off the inning with a single and later scored. Morrison doubled and scored on a Casey Kuhn single in the fifth to put the Battlers ahead, 4-3. Katie Roush singled and scored on a Morrison single in the seventh to give A-B a 5-3 advantage. Shepherd had a chance to win the game in the bottom of the seventh. Canby led off with a single and later scored to cut the deficit to 5-4. The Rams had the bases loaded with two outs, but Battler pitcher Casie Waskey got a ground out to give the Battlers the sweep. Canby went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored to lead the Rams in the nightcap. Christee Anderson (Martinsburg/Kearneysville, WV) suffered the loss for the Rams. Shepherd falls to 3-14, 1-11 in WVIAC play. The Rams return to action on Friday when they host Glenville State at 3:00 p.m.Game One
