BUCKHANNON, W.Va. -- Sophomore forward Mike Watson (Springfield, VA/West Springfield HS) scored Shepherd's only goal and helped the Rams earn a 1-1 tie with West Virginia Wesleyan in men's soccer action on Friday afternoon at West Virginia Wesleyan.
Watson's score came at the 37:11 mark on a feed from Jose Ventura (Washington, DC/Archbishop Carroll HS).
Dino Dozgic scored on a free kick for the Bobcats at the 30:24 mark.
Sophomore Robert Pence (Woodbridge, VA)/Woodbridge HS) recorded six saves in goal for the Rams, while West Virginia Wesleyan goalkeeper Chris Mazzerelli registered a pair of saves.
"I'm happy with the tie," stated head coach Joseph Okoh. "Wesleyan is a tough place to play and this is a nice beginning for us in conference play."
Shepherd moves to 2-0-1, while West Virginia Wesleyan is now 1-1-1.
The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Bridgewater College for a 4:00 p.m. matchup.
