SHEPHERD HOLDS OFF PITT-JOHNSTOWN

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. --Shepherd College held off University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown for a 2-1 win in men's soccer action on Monday afternoon at UPJ.

Freshman forward Richard Smith (Gaithersburg, MD/Magruder HS) scored the game's first goal on an assist from sophomore forward Mike Watson (Springfield, VA/ West Springfield HS) at the 20:27 mark to give Shepherd a 1-0 lead at the break.

The Rams increased their lead to 2-0 on a goal by freshman forward Nathan Tobler (Leesburg, VA/Loudoun County HS) at the 49:00 mark. Tobler was assisted by Bernard Walters (Kingston, Jamaica).

Pitt-Johnstown scored at the 83:00 mark on a goal by Todd Kucenic off a feed from Adam Price.

Sophomore Robert Pence (Woodbridge, VA)/Woodbridge HS) recorded five saves in goal for the Rams. Brian Goosen and Steve Weimer combined for eight saves for UPJ.

Shepherd improves to 3-1-1, while Pitt-Johnstown falls to 3-3-0. The Rams return to action on Sunday when they host Mercyhurst at 1:00 p.m.
