SHEPHERD WINS FIFTH STRAIGHT WITH 2-1 TRIUMPH OVER UDC

WASHINGTON, DC -- Sophomore forward Richard Smith (Gaithersburg, MD/Magruder HS) scored on an assist from freshman midfielder Alie Basma (Frederick, MD/ Thomas Johnson HS/Frederick CC) at the 71:32 to lift the Rams to a 2-1 win over UDC at UDC. The win was the fifth straight for the Rams and extended their unbeaten streak to nine games.

The Firebirds took a 1-0 lead at the 11:20 mark on an unassisted tally by Alvin Quaza.

The Rams tied the game at 1-1 when Basma scored at the 40:52 mark on a feed from freshman defender Darrell Gonzales (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook HS).

Junior netminder Robert Pence (Woodbridge, VA/ Woodbridge HS) recorded three saves in goal for the Rams, while Yankulou Bosgan had one save for the Firebirds.

Shepherd improves to 11-3-4 overall, while UDC fall to 9-6-3. The Rams return to action on Sunday when they host Charleston in the regular season finale at 1:00 p.m.
