SHEPHERD GAINS WIN, TIE AT SHIPPENSBURG TOURNAMENT SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. -- The Shepherd men's soccer team tied Shippensburg, 2-2, and beat Kutztown, 3-0, in the Shippensburg Spring Tournament on Saturday. Richard Smith scored both goals against Shippensburg (50th Min, 55th Min) with Alie Basma assisting him on the first score and Guilherme Fonseca assisting on the second goal. Adam Sperry scored the first goal (38th Min) in the Kutztown game on an assist by Nahome Mazenga. Nathan Tobler headed home the second goal (47th Min) off a cross from Alie Basma, while Richard Smith closed out the scoring (67th Min) for the Rams with an assist from Guilherme Fonseca. "It was a good showing for us," said head coach Joseph Okoh. "I give a lot of credit to the players who have not played since early November last year. We got off to a slow start, but we made a few adjustments and the guys responded. It was fun to get out there again and the team is looking forward to the rest of the spring season." The Rams return to action Sunday when they travel to Harrisonburg, Virginia to take on James Madison University. |
