SHEPHERD EDGES PRESBYTERIAN, 3-2

CLINTON, SC -- Shepherd University edged Presbyterian College, 3-2, in men's soccer action at Martin Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Presbyterian took a 1-0 lead when Brandon Tucker scored on an assist from Mark Owens at the 10:41 mark.

Sophomore Roberto Azevedo (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Montgomery College) tied the game at 1-1 on an unassisted goal at the 37:18 mark. Minutes later Azevedo scored on an assist from junior Jose Ventura (Washington, DC/Archbishop Carroll HS) to give the Rams a 2-1 advantage at the break.

Freshman Leighton Meredith (Clarendon, Jamaica/Glenmuir HS) scored what proved to be the game-winner at the 57:57 mark on dual assists from sophomore Richard Smith (Gaithersburg, MD/Magruder HS) and junior Jamie Ritchie (Remington, VA/Liberty HS).

The Blue Hose cut the lead to 3-2 when Tucker scored his second gaol of the day on a feed by Justin Mullner at the 59:02 mark.

Shepherd got two saves in goal from junior keeper Pat Quinn (Germantown, MD/Good Counsel HS), while Mark Owens had three saves for Presbyterian.

Shepherd improves to 1-0-1 on the season, while Presbyterian falls to 1-1-0. The Rams return to action on Sunday when they travel to Mars Hill for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
