SHEPHERD MEN'S SOCCER RANKED 22ND IN PRESEASON POLL

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- The Shepherd University men's soccer team is ranked 22nd in the NSCAA NCAA II poll for August 2, 2006. The preseason ranking is a program first for the Rams.

"It is quite an honor to be considered as one of the top programs in the country and it shows that we are getting a lot of respect regionally and nationally as we prepare to begin the 2006 campaign," said head coach Joseph Okoh. "All this means is that we have to work very hard as everyone will be trying to knock us off. It is good news for our university and community. However it is how you finish the season that really counts. The players are not focusing on the early season accolades, they understand how much work they will have to put in order for us to accomplish our team goal of gaining an NCAA playoff birth."

The Rams begin their preseason camp on August 15 and take on Howard University (Division 1) in a scrimmage contest on August 19 at 8 p.m. in Washington, D.C.
