21ST-RANKED SHEPHERD BLANKS OHIO VALLEY

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Shepherd University used a balanced scoring attack en route to a 6-0 win over Ohio Valley in first round WVIAC men's soccer tournament action at Shepherd on Tuesday afternoon. Six different players found the back of the net as the Rams gained the first-ever home postseason win in program history.

Freshman midfielder Guilherme Fonseca (Guaraja, Brazil/Objetivo School), freshman forward Emmanuel Elomobor (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook HS), and freshman midfielder Nahome Mazengia (Silver Spring, MD/ Montgomery Blair HS) scored first half goals to give the Rams a 3-0 advantage going into the break.

Sophomore defender Leighton Meredith (Clarendon, Jamaica/Glenmuir), senior forward Jamie Ritchie (Remington, VA/Liberty HS), and sophomore midfielder Alie Basma (Frederick, MD/Thomas Johnson HS/Frederick CC) added second half goals for the Rams.

Junior forward Richard Smith (Gaithersburg, MD/Magruder HS) and junior midfielder/forward Adam Sperry (Charles Town, WV/Jefferson HS) each recorded a pair of assists.

Senior goalkeeper Pat Quinn (Germantown, MD/Good Counsel HS) had a pair of saves for the Rams in the shutout effort. William Bloom recorded 10 saves for the Fighting Scots.

Shepherd improves to 17-2-1, while Ohio Valley falls to 4-14-1. The Rams will host the winner of the Salem International-Davis & Elkins game on Thursday at a time to be determined.
