SHEPHERD MEN'S SOCCER DOWNS MARS HILL IN OVERTIME MARS HILL, NC - Sophomore forward Emmanuel Elomobor (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook) scored on assists from senior forward Nathan Tobler (Lucketts, VA/Loudoun County) and senior midfielder Dan Merold (Oak Hill, VA/Oakton) a minute an a half into overtime to lift Shepherd University to a 3-2 win over Mars Hill in men's soccer action at Mars Hill on Sunday. Chad Quinn gave Mars Hill a 1-0 lead at the 3:31 mark on an assist from Rondon Bacchus. Shepherd tied the game at 1-1 when Merold scored at the 37:41 mark on assists from Elomobor and freshman forward Gregory Khan (Mt. Pleasant, Tobago/Bertille St. Clair). Daniel Waymont scored on a penalty kick at the 59:41 mark to give the Lions a 2-1 lead. Shepherd forced the extra session when Khan scored on a feed from freshman midfielder Bobby Doyle (Leesburg, VA/Loudoun County) at the 81:49 mark. Freshman Anthony Pino (Centreville, MD/Queen Anne's) had three saves in goal for the Rams, while Josiah Larson had one save for the Lions. Shepherd improves to 5-4-1, while Mars Hill falls to 5-5. The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Shippensburg for a noon contest. |
