RAMS BLANK MARS HILL, 2-0 SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Senior forward Jamie Richie (Remington, VA/Liberty HS) and junior forward Richard Smith (Gaithersburg, MD/Magruder HS) each tallied a goal and an assist to lead Shepherd University to a 2-0 win over Mars Hill in men's soccer action at Shepherd on Sunday. Smith opened the scoring on a feed from Ritchie and freshman midfielder Nahome Mazengia (Silver Spring, MD/Montgomery Blair HS) at the 39:04 mark. Ritchie added the game's final score on assists from Smith and sophomore midfielder Leighton Meredith (Clarendon, Jamaica/Glenmuir) at the 85:25 mark. Senior netminder Pat Quinn (Germantown, MD/Good Counsel HS) recorded a pair of saves en route to his second shutout of the year. Freshman keeper Josiah Larson (Falls Church, VA/George Mason) had seven saves for Mars Hill. The Rams held outshot the Lions, 23-to-5 and held a 6-to-1 advantage in corner kicks. Shepherd improves to 2-0, while Mars Hill drops to 3-2. The Rams return to action on Thursday when they travel to Marymount for a 7:00 p.m. contest. |
