 NO. 3-RANKED MERCYHURST EDGES SHEPHERD, 1-0 SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV -- Mercyhurst College, ranked third in the latest NSCAA/Adidas National Rankings for NCAA Division II schools, edged Shepherd College, 1-0 in men's soccer action at Ram Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Mercyhurst's Mike Blythe scored on an assist from Oliver Woodward at the 67:45 mark to give the Lakers a 1-0 advantage. Minutes later Shepherd nearly tied the game on a shot by sophomore forward Jamie Ritchie (Remington, VA/Liberty HS), but his shot deflected off the cross bar and Mercyhurst held on for the hard-fought win. Marty Ruberry had a pair of saves in goal for Mercyhurst, while sophomore Robert Pence (Woodbridge, VA)/Woodbridge HS) recorded five saves for the Rams. Shepherd falls to 3-2-1, while Mercyhurst improves to 5-0-0. The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they host Alderson-Broaddus for a 4:00 p.m. conference matchup.
