SHEPHERD EDGES MARYMOUNT, 2-1

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV -- Shepherd University edged Marymount University, 2-1, in men's soccer action at Shepherd on Friday afternoon.

Shepherd took a 1-0 lead at the 8:00 mark when freshman midfielder/defender Mitchell Gore (Alexandria, VA/Edison HS) scored on assists from junior forward Donald Fon (Silver Spring, MD/Montgomery Blair HS) and sophomore defender Bernard Walters (Waterford, Jamaica/Camperdown HS).

The Rams took a 2-0 lead at the 15:00 mark when sophomore midfielder/forward Adam Sperry (Charles Town, WV/Jefferson HS) scored on feeds from sophomore forward/midfielder Roberto Azevedo (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Montgomery College) and sophomore defender Shawn Wijernatne (Silver Spring, MD/ Einstein HS).

The Saints got on the scoreboard at the 20:00 mark on an unassisted goal by sophomore midfielder Dylan Hide.

Ram junior keeper Robert Pence (Woodbridge, VA/Woodbridge HS) stopped a point blank shot in the game's final minute to preserve the win. He finished with six saves, while Marymount goalie David Benson also had six saves.

Shepherd improves to 3-1-1 on the season, while Marymount falls to 1-3. The Rams return to action on Sunday when they host Salem International in the conference opener at 1:00 p.m.
