SHEPHERD EDGES LYNCHBURG IN SEASON OPENER

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Freshman forward Richard Smith (Gaithersburg, MD/Magruder HS) scored the game's only goal to lift Shepherd College to a 1-0 win over Lynchburg College on Friday afternoon at Shepherd.

Smith's tally came at the 37:00 mark on a feed from Yakob Tezerawork (Rockville, MD/Wheaton HS).

Sophomore Robert Pence (Woodbridge, VA)/Woodbridge HS) recorded six saves in goal for the Rams en route to the shutout win. Sophomore goalkeeper Dan Ruch registered seven saves for the Hornets.

Shepherd improves to 1-0, while Lynchburg falls to 0-1.

The Rams return to action on Sunday when they host Columbia Union in a 4:00 p.m. matchup.
