SHEPHERD DOWNS HOOD, 4-0

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV -- Sophomore midfielder Dan Merold (Oakton, VA/Oakton HS) scored a goal and assisted on another to lead Shepherd University to a 4-0 win over Hood College in men's soccer action at Shepherd on Wednesday afternoon.

Merold scored the game's first goal on a header off a feed from sophomore midfielder JJ Flores (Woodbridge, VA/Gar-Field HS) at the 33:00 mark.

Sophomore midfielder/forward Adam Sperry (Charles Town, WV/Jefferson HS) scored minutes later on an assist from sophomore defender Bernard Walters (Waterford, Jamaica/Camperdown HS) to give the Rams a 2-0 lead.

Shepherd took a 3-0 advantage into the break when junior captain Ian Newman (Kingston, Jamaica/Campion College) scored at the 43:00 mark with an assist from Merold.

Sophomore forward Richard Smith (Gaithersburg, MD/Magruder HS) scored the game's final tally at the 77:00 mark with an assist from sophomore forward Nathan Tobler (Lucketts, VA/Loudoun County HS).

Freshman keeper Chad Baker (Jefferson, MD/Brunswick HS) had four saves in goal for the Blazers. Junior netminder Robert Pence (Woodbridge, VA/Woodbridge HS) had two saves in a shutout effort for the Rams.

Shepherd improves to 7-3-4, while Hood falls to 1-7. The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Davis & Elkins for a 1:00 p.m. conference match.
