 SHEPHERD UPSETS GANNON SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV -- Richard Smith (Gaithersburg, MD/Magruder HS) scored a pair of goals to lead Shepherd College to a 2-1 win over Gannon University in men's soccer action at Ram Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Shepherd grabbed a 1-0 lead when Smith scored on assists from Adam Sperry (Kearneysville, WV/Jefferson HS) and Mike Watson (Springfield, VA/ West Springfield HS) at the 31:00 mark. Smith gave the Rams a 2-0 lead with another tally on assists from Nathan Tobler (Leesburg, VA/Loudoun County HS) and Sean Holland (Chantilly, VA/Chantilly HS) at the 44:00 mark. Gannon's Morgan Knipe scored on a header off a feed from Greg Snazyk at the 85:00 mark. Shepherd goalie Robert Pence (Woodbridge, VA/ Woodbridge HS) recorded eight saves, while Gannon's Kim Jernberg had three saves. Shepherd improves to 4-2-2, while Gannon, ranked eight in the latest NCAA II Great Lakes Regional Poll, drops to 6-4-0. The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Kutztown for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
