RAMS BLANK COLUMBIA UNION IN SEASON OPENER, 7-0

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Freshman forward Emmanuel Elomobor (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook) scored three goals to lift Shepherd University to a 7-0 win over Columbia Union in men's soccer action in the season opener for both schools at Shepherd on Sunday afternoon.

Sophomore midfielder Alie Basma (Frederick, MD/Thomas Johnson/Frederick CC) and freshman midfielder Guilherme Fonseca (Guaruja, Brazil/Objetivo School) each added a pair of goals for the Rams.

Junior forward Nathan Tobler (Lucketts, VA /Loudoun County), junior defender Jon Goetz (Kingsville, MD/Perry Hall), and freshman midfielder Nahome Mazengia (Silver Spring, MD/Montgomery Blair) each tallied a pair of assists.

Shepherd outshot the Pioneers, 35-4 and had a 12-0 corner kick advantage.

Ram goalkeeper Patrick Quinn (Germantown, MD/Good Counsel) registered one save in a shutout effort, while Cesar Quispe had a eight saves for the Pioneers.

Shepherd improves its record to 1-0, while Columbia Union falls to 0-1. The Rams return to action next Sunday when they host Mars Hill for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
