SHEPHERD, COLUMBIA UNION BATTLE TO 1-1 TIE

GERMANTOWN, MD -- Shepherd University and Columbia Union College battled to a 1-1 tie in men's soccer action at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Germantown on Thursday evening.

Shepherd gained a 1-0 lead at the 58:36 mark when junior forward Jamie Ritchie (Remington, VA/Liberty HS) scored on a header off a feed from sophomore forward Nathan Tobler (Lucketts, VA/Loudoun County HS).

The Pioneers earned the tie at the 89:00 mark when Hashim Savage scored on an assist from Cliff Jean-Baptiste.

Shepherd got three saves in goal from junior keeper Robert Pence (Woodbridge, VA/Woodbridge HS), while Tetteh Nettey had 12 saves for Columbia Union.

Shepherd held a 25-to-8 shot advantage, while the Pioneers won the corner kick battle by a 3-to-2 margin.

Shepherd moves to 0-0-1 on the season.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Presbyterian for a noon contest.
