AWARD WINNERS ANNOUNCED AT MEN'S SOCCER BANQUET

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Shepherd University head men's soccer coach Joseph Okoh announced several team award winners recently at the men's soccer banquet at the Yellow Brick Bank Restaurant in Shepherdstown.

Sophomore Jamie Ritchie (Remington, VA/Liberty HS) was named the Forward of the Year. Ritchie, a two-time All-Region choice, led the Rams in scoring with 11 goals and four assists for 26 points. Ritchie had three goals and assisted on two others in Shepherd's 5-2 win over Shippensburg to garner WVIAC Player of the Week honors last season.

Freshman Ryan Prosper (Herndon, VA/Herndon HS) was named Midfield Player of the Year. Prosper recorded one goal and four assists for nine points last year. He scored the game-winning goal in a 2-1 triumph over Columbia Union.

Freshman defender Mikus Rubenis (Mercersburg, PA/Mercersburg Academy) earned Defensive Player of the Year honors. Rubenis was a key on the Shepherd defense that recorded three shutouts.

Freshman defender Yakob Tezerawork (Rockville, MD/Wheaton HS) was named the recipient of the Coaches Award. Tezerawork recorded a goal and an assist for the Rams for three points. His only goal of the year was the game-winner in a 2-1 win over Wilmington College.

Sophomore defender Ian Newman (Kingston, Jamaica) was named the team's Most Valuable Player. Newman, the team captain, was the main force on a strong Ram defense. He was tied for second on the team in scoring with four goals for eight points. Three of his goals came in Shepherd's last four contests.
