BUCKHANNON, W.Va. -- Damien Jackson scored 20 points to lead West Virginia Wesleyan to a 78-75 win over Shepherd College in WVIAC men's basketball action on Monday night.
Demond Tapscott (Fauquier/Warrenton, VA) scored a game-high 27 points to lead Shepherd. He connected on 10-of-25 shots, including 7-of-15 from three-point range. Carlton Talley (H. D. Woodson/ Washington, DC) added 11 points and Ron Rheinhardt (Archbishop Carroll/Bowie, MD) had 10. Kevin Newsome (Archbishop Carroll/Washington, DC) had team highs of nine rebounds and four assists.
Also in double figures for the Bobcats were Aswan Morris (19 points), Richard Lindsey (17), and Jamar Thompkins (10). Thompkins also had a game-high 10 rebounds.
Shepherd outrebounded the Bobcats, 43-34, but Wesleyan sank 24-of-26 free throws, including 19-of-19 in the second half to secure the victory.
Shepherd falls to 10-12, 7-8 in conference action, while West Virginia Wesleyan improves to 17-5, 12-2. The Rams return to action on Thursday when they travel to Glenville for a key conference matchup. Tipoff is 7:30 p.m.
