SHEPHERD EDGES TECH
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Junior forward Danley Shank (Pond Bank, PA/Chambersburg HS) drained a 15-foot jumper with eight seconds left in regulation and freshman guard Thomas Carr (Toledo, OH/ Hargrave Military Academy) added pair of free throws with 0.9 seconds remaining to lead Shepherd University to a 73-70 win over WVU Tech in WVIAC men's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Thursday night.
Shank scored 15 points to pace the Rams. Junior center Ryan Peterson (Columbia, MO/North Central Missouri) added 14 points, while junior forward Darren Stackhouse (Alexandria, VA/Garrett CC) added 13. Peterson also grabbed a team-high six rebounds. Junior guard Chad Myers (Vinton, VA/Hargrave Military Academy) came off the bench to add nine points on a 4-of-5 shooting effort.
Rodney Mayes scored 27 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to pace the Golden Bears. Chris Jones added 20 points.
The Rams shot 50 percent or better from the floor for the second straight game. The Rams shot 50.9 percent (27-53), while Tech connected on an even 50 percent (26-52) of its field goals.
Shepherd improves to 6-10 overall, 4-3 in WVIAC play, while WVU Tech falls to 4-10, 1-4. The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host University of Charleston for a 4:00 p.m. contest.
