WEST LIBERTY HANDS SHEPHERD FIRST CONFERENCE LOSS

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV -- Shane Maynard led four West Liberty starters in double figures with 24 points to lead the Hilltoppers to a 96-86 win over Shepherd University in WVIAC men's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Monday night.

Corey McDuffie and Dan Binggeli each added 19 points, while Adam Southern had 15. Binggeli and Maynard tied for game-high rebounding honors with 10 each.

Junior forward Danley Shank (Pond Bank, PA/Chambersburg HS) scored a game-high 26 points to pace the Rams. Junior center Ryan Peterson (Columbia, MO/ North Central Missouri) poured in 18 points and hauled down a team-high nine rebounds, while junior guard Chad Myers (Vinton, VA/Hargrave Military Academy) came off the bench to add 18 points -- fueled by a 5-of-10 effort from beyond the arc.

Shepherd falls to 4-8 overall, 2-1 in WVIAC play, while West Liberty improves to 7-4, 1-1. The Rams return to action on Thursday when they travel to Salem International for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
