SHEPHERD RALLIES PAST WHEELING JESUIT

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Mark Jennings (North County (Hagerstown CC)/Glen Burnie, MD) scored a career-high 30 points to lift Shepherd to an 84-72 win over Wheeling Jesuit in WVIAC men's basketball action at the Butcher Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon.

The Rams, trailing by 19 points (33-14) with just over eight minutes left in the first half, closed with a 25-12 run to cut the lead to 45-39 at the intermission.

Shepherd led throughout most of the second half before the Cardinals took a 60-59 advantage with 8:51 remaining on a pair of Justin Kreefer free throws. Wheeling Jesuit's last lead of the game came when Mike Patrick drained a three-pointer with 6:12 left to give the Cardinals a 65-63 lead. Ron Rheinhardt (Archbishop Carroll/Bowie, MD) answered back a minute later with a three-pointer of his own to give the Rams the lead for good at 66-65.

Phil Stewart (The Heights School/New Carrolton, MD) and Rheinhardt each added 14 points for the Rams. Kevin Newsome (Archbishop Carroll/Washington, DC) recorded a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 13 assists. Keith Davis (Berkeley Springs (Mercersburg Academy)/Berkeley Springs, WV) added 12 points and a tied Jennings and Rheinhardt for team-high rebounding honors with seven boards.

James Watts led the Cardinals with 18 points. Jose Gonzalez grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds to go along with six points, while Chris Hootman added nine points and eight rebounds.

Shepherd improves to 5-5, 2-0 in WVIAC action, while Wheeling Jesuit falls to 7-4, 1-1. The Rams return to action on Monday when they host West Liberty at 8:00 p.m.
