WHEELING, W.Va. -- Demond Tapscott (Fauquier/Warrenton, VA) scored a career-high 28 points, including 24 in the second half, to lead Shepherd College to an 83-66 win over Wheeling Jesuit in WVIAC men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon.
Tapscott connected on 8-of-13 shots, including 4-of-7 from three-point range. He also drained 8-of-13 free throws.
Shepherd rallied from a 36-26 halftime deficit. The Rams opened the second half with a 31-9 run enroute to their first road win of the season.
Ryan Jones (Banneker/Washington, DC) added 12 points on a 6-of-7 effort from the floor. Phil Stewart (The Heights School/New Carrollton, MD) was also in double figures with 11. Kevin Newsome (Archbishop Carroll/Washington, DC) led the Ram defense with six steals.
James Watts led the Cardinals with 22 points.
The Rams improve to 4-4, 2-0 in conference action, while the Wheeling Jesuit falls to 5-4, 1-2. The Rams remain on the road to face West Liberty on Monday for a 5:15 p.m. contest.
