WASHINGTON, DC -- Rashiem Wright scored a game-high 30 points to lead University of the District of Columbia to an 83-66 win over Shepherd College in men's basketball action at UDC on Wednesday night.
Wright also grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds for UDC (18-5). Thomas Jackson added 16 points and Tim Rawls had 14, while Christopher Turner dished out a game-10 assists.
Mark Jennings (North County (Hagerstown CC)/Glen Burnie, MD) led Shepherd (7-15) with 23 points on a 9-of-17 shooting effort. The performance was Jennings' 21st double-figure scoring effort of the year. He has also scored 20 points or more in 11 games. Kevin Newsome (Archbishop Carroll/Washington, DC) added 15 points and team-highs of seven assists, five rebounds, and two steals.
The Rams shot a season-high 59.6 percent from the floor, including a red hot 71.4 percent in the second half. UDC also gave an impressive shooting display with a 54.4 field goal percentage for the game. The Firebirds used a 54.8 shooting effort in the first half to build a 44-30 halftime cushion to put the game away.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Davis & Elkins for a 4:00 p.m. contest.
