WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Quincy Tarpley scored a game-high 14 points to lead UDC to an 83-48 win over Shepherd College in men's basketball action at UDC.
The Firebirds shot a red-hot 52 percent from the floor, including a 57 percent shooting effort in the second half.
Freshman forward Patrick Miller (Hedgesville/Hedgesville, WV) scored on an assist from senior center Ryan Jones (Banneker/Washington, DC) with 3:58 left in the first half to cut the Firebird lead to 28-21. UDC went on a 13-0 run to close out the half to gain a 41-21 advantage at the break.
Junior guard Shannon Layton (Martinsburg (Potomac State)/Charles Town, WV) led Shepherd with 13 points. Jones added 10 points and six rebounds. Sophomore forward Keith Davis (Berkeley Springs (Mercersburg Academy)/Berkeley Springs, WV) grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds, while freshman guard Ron Rheinhardt (Archbishop Carroll/Bowie, MD) added eight points off the bench.
Antoine Martin and Frank Crawford were also in double figures for the Firebirds with 11 points each.
Shepherd falls to 0-1, while UDC improves to 2-0.
The Rams return to action on Monday when they travel to Marshall University for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
