SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Derek Jones scored 19 of his game-high 30 points in the second half to lead University of Charleston to a 90-82 win over Shepherd in WVIAC men's basketball action at the Butcher Athletic Center on Saturday night.
Carl Edwards added 14 points and game-high 11 rebounds for Charleston (11-5, 6-1). Barrett Williams added 14 points, while Brandon Dunbar had 12 and Ben Fordham tossed in 11.
Mark Jennings (North County (HCC)/Glen Burnie, MD) posted team-highs of 29 points and seven rebounds for the Rams (5-11, 2-6). Jennings also added six assists. Keith Fanjoy (Hammond (Howard CC)/Columbia, MD) added 16 points and six rebounds. Keith Davis (Berkeley Springs (Mercersburg Academy)/Berkeley Springs, WV) added 11 points and Kevin Newsome (Archbishop Carroll/Washington, DC) dished out a game-high eight assists.
Shepherd built a 50-37 halftime lead behind a torrid 57 percent shooting performance. The Rams were cold in the second stanza (36 percent), while Charleston stepped up with a 62 percent shooting effort to pull away for the win.
The Rams return to action on Thursday when they travel to Bluefield State for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
