TECH EDGES SHEPHERD
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Philip Godfrey scored 16 points and Jadae McGuire added 15 points and 10 rebounds to lead WVU-Tech to a 72-70 win over Shepherd in WVIAC men's basketball action at the Butcher Athletic Center on Thursday night.
Delonta Jones added 11 points and Otis Anderson had 10 for the Golden Bears, who improved to 5-9, 2-3 in WVIAC action. Mark Jennings (North County (HCC)/Glen Burnie, MD) scored a game-high 22 points on an 8-of-13 shooting effort, while Dorian Sims (Reading Central Catholic/Reading, PA) added 19 points for Shepherd (5-10, 2-5). Ron Rheinhardt (Archbishop Carroll/Bowie, MD) had 11 points and hauled down a game-high 12 rebounds. Jennings added eight boards, while Sims had seven. Shepherd led throughout most of the contest. Tech gained its first lead of the second half on a Otis Anderson basket with 5:00 remaining at 60-58. The Golden Bears took the lead for good at 66-65 on a free throw by Jadae McGuire with 2:09 remaining. The Rams later battled to within a point at 70-69 on a pair of Sims' free throws with 44 seconds left. Tech answered back with an Anderson layup and held on for the win.The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Charleston at 8:00 p.m. Shepherd will also be hosting an alumni game at 2:00 p.m. The record-setting 1975-76 Shepherd squad will also be honored prior to tipoff.
