SHEPHERD RALLIES PAST SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT STATE

EAST STROUDSBURG, PA -- Shepherd College rallied past Southern Connecticut State for a 58-51 win in the consolation game of the 39th Panaia-Soloway Rotary Pocono Classic at East Stroudsburg University on Saturday.

Southern Connecticut State held a 24-19 advantage, but Shepherd answered back in the second half. A jumper by Danley Shank (Chambersburg, PA/ Chambersburg HS) at the 9:09 mark tied the game at 39-39. After four more lead changes and two ties, Shepherd took the lead for good on a Brady Catlett (Hedgesville, WV/Hedgesville HS/New Hampshire) layup at 45-44 with 4:51 left in the game. Shepherd closed the game on a 13-7 run for the 58-51 triumph.

Mark Jennings (Glen Burnie, MD/North County HS/Hagerstown CC) scored 17 of his game-high 19 points in the second half to lead the Ram comeback. Catlett added 17 points, while Shank had 12 and tied Esosa Imoisili (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial HS/Henderson State) for game-high rebounding honors with nine.

Mike McCurdy scored 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Southern Connecticut State. Ernie Brown was also on double figures with 10 points.

Shepherd improves to 2-4, while Southern Connecticut State drops to 1-6. The Rams return to action on Saturday, December 20 when they host Hood College for a 2:00 p.m. contest. Former Ram head coach Bob Starkey will be honored prior to tipoff.
