RAMS FALL TO NATIONALLY-RANKED MONTEVALLO
LAKELAND, FL -- James Hall scored a game-high 30 points to lead No.8-ranked Montevallo to an 81-59 win over Shepherd University in men's basketball action at the Florida Southern Holiday Classic on Thursday night.
Hall hit on 10-of-16 shots from the floor for the Falcons, including a remarkable 6-of-7 effort from beyond the arc. Caleb Kennedy added 16 points, while Dayton Miller chipped in with nine. Jarmaine Vanness grabbed a game-high seven rebounds.
Junior forward Danley Shank (Pond Bank, PA/Chambersburg HS) and sophomore guard Yves Moliva (Cameroon/Southeast (NE) CC) led the Rams with 12 points each. Moliva also hauled down a team-high five rebounds. Junior center Ryan Peterson (Columbia, MO/North Central Missouri) added 10 points, while junior forward Darren Stackhouse (Alexandria, VA/Garrett CC) had nine.
Senior center Matt Slaninka (Olney, MD/DeMatha HS/ University of Maryland) saw action for the second time this season and contributed three points and a pair of rebounds in five minutes of play.
Shepherd falls to 3-7, while Montevallo improves to 10-2.
The Rams return to action on January 8 when they host conference foe Wheeling Jesuit at 7:30 p.m. Free general admission seating will be offered the contest and the women's game at 5:15 p.m. J.J. Jumper, the official mascot of NCAA basketball, will be on hand at both games to perform and give away NCAA promotional items.
