SHEPHERD FALLS TO FAIRMONT
FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Darryl Hepburn scored a game-high 23 points to lead Fairmont State to a 79-72 win over Shepherd College in WVIAC men's basketball action at Joe Retton Arena on Saturday.
Hepburn hit on 9-of-12 shots for the Falcons. Mario Finley added 15 points, while Ricky Johnson added eight points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Dorian Sims (Reading Central Catholic/Reading, PA) led the Rams with 17 points. Sims hit on 5-of-9 shots, including a 4-for-5 performance from three-point range. Keith Fanjoy (Hammond (Howard CC)/Columbia, MD) recorded 15 points and a team-high eight rebounds, while Mark Jennings (North County (Hagerstown CC)/Glen Burnie, MD) added 14 points and Phil Stewart (The Heights School/New Carrolton, MD) had 11. Kevin Newsome (Archbishop Carroll/Washington, DC) handed out a game-high seven assists. Shepherd shot over 50 percent from the floor for the second straight game. The Rams also battled to tie the Falcons (28-28) in rebounds. Fairmont held a big advantage at the free throw line by sinking 27-of-40 free throws, while Shepherd connected on 18-of-23 shots from the charity stripe. Shepherd falls to 5-8, 2-3 in conference action, while Fairmont State improves to 10-2, 3-1. The Rams complete a three-game road trip on Monday when they travel to Alderson-Broaddus for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
