SHEPHERD WINS SECOND STRAIGHT

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Phil Stewart (Heights School/New Carollton, MD) scored a game-high 19 points to lift Shepherd to an 82-71 win over Davis & Elkins in WVIAC men's basketball action at the Butcher Athletic Center.

Stewart, who hit on 7-of-9 shots, scored 16 of his points in the first half to help Shepherd to a 39-21 advantage at the break. The Rams connected on 64 percent of their first half field goals while limiting Davis & Elkins to a 24 percent shooting effort.

Shepherd shot a red-hot 63 percent from the floor for the game, including a 62 percent effort from beyond the arc.

Freshman Ron Rheinhardt (Archbishop Carroll/Bowie, MD) added 17 points for the Rams on a 7-of-9 shooting performance, while Shannon Layton (Martinsburg (Potomac State)/Charles Town, WV) added 13 points. Carlton Talley (H.D. Woodson/ Washington, DC) added 10 points and tied Stewart for team-high rebounding honors with eight boards.

Jabari Ray scored 17 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds for the Senators. Mike Miller added 15 points.

Shepherd improves to 2-2 overall, 1-0 in conference play, while Davis & Elkins falls to 1-3, 0-2.

The Rams return to action on Monday when they host Mount Aloysius for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
