SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Dorian Sims (Reading Central Catholic/Reading, PA) scored a team-high 18 points to lead Shepherd College to an 84-59 win over Columbia Union in first round action of the Clarion Hotel Tip-Off Tournament at the Butcher Athletic Center.
Sims hit on 7-of-12 shots, including 4-of-7 from beyond the arc.
Phil Stewart (The Heights School/New Carrolton, MD) added 17 points on a 7-of-9 shooting effort. Matt Slaninka (DeMatha (University of Maryland)/Olney, MD) went 7-of-10 from the floor to score 14 points. He also added six rebounds. Keith Davis (Berkeley Springs (Mercersburg Academy)/Berkeley Springs, WV) added nine points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
Darryl Bethea and Dante Singelton each scored 20 points to lead Columbia Union. Raymond Strachan added 11 points and agame-high 11 rebounds.
Shepherd (1-0) will face Belmont Abbey, a 57-55 winnner over Bloomsburg in the first game, at 4:00 p.m. in the championship game on Sunday. Columbia Union (0-1) and Bloomsburg will meet in the consolation game at 2:00 p.m.
Kevin Newsome dished out five assists to share game-high assist honors with teammate Mark Jennings.
