Takoma Park, Md -- Raymond Strachan scored a game-high 23 points to lead Columbia Union to a 75-60 win over Shepherd College in men's basketball action at Columbia Union on Monday night.
Strachan hit on 6-of-8 shots from the floor and sank 11-of-14 free throws for the Pioneers. Monte Ortel scored 20 points and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds, while Sullivan Phillips added 14 points, six rebounds, and seven assists.
The Rams trailed 37-30 at the break and fared no better in the second half as the Pioneers shot a scorching 63 percent in the second stanza en route to the 15-point win.
Ryan Jones (Banneker/Washington, DC) led Shepherd with 19 points, while Keith Davis (Berkeley Springs (Mercersburg Academy)/Berkeley Springs, WV) added 14 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Demond Tapscott (Fauquier/Warrenton, VA) was limited to 10 points on a 3-of-16 shooting effort. Kevin Newsome (Archbishop Carroll/Washington, DC) dished out a game-high eight assists and Carlton Talley (H. D. Woodson/Washington, DC) added eight points off the bench in only 10 minutes of action.
Shepherd falls to 10-14 overall. The Rams return to action on Thursday when they travel to Alderson-Broaddus for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
