TYLER EARNS FIRST WIN AT SHEPHERD

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Ken Tyler earned his first win as head coach at Shepherd as the Rams rallied past Columbia Union for a 65-52 victory in men's basketball action in the home opener at the Butcher Athletic Center.

Phil Stewart (Heights School/New Carrollton, MD) poured in a team-high 19 points for the Rams on an 5-of-10 shooting performance with a 3-for-5 effort from beyond the arc. Kevin Newsome (Archbishop Carroll/Washington, DC) added 13 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Shannon Layton (Martinsburg (Potomac State)/Charles Town, WV) was also in double figures with 10 points.

Michael Gordon scored 14 points to lead Columbia Union.

Shepherd improves to 1-2 on the year, while the Pioneers fall to 3-4.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Davis & Elkins for a 7:30 p.m. contest in the conference opener.
