SHANK LEADS SHEPHERD PAST BLUEFIELD STATE

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. -- Junior forward Danley Shank (Pond Bank, PA/Chambersburg HS) scored a game-high 23 points to lead Shepherd University to a 78-67 win over Bluefield State in WVIAC men's basketball action at Bluefield on Thursday night.

Shank connected on 7-of-14 shots from the floor and was 7-of-10 from the free throw line. He also added five rebounds, two assists, a blocked shot, and a career-high six steals.

Senior guard Ron Rheinhardt (Bowie, MD/Archbishop Carroll HS) came off the bench to score a season-high 16 points on a 7-of-9 shooting performance. Junior center Ryan Peterson (Columbia, MO/North Central Missouri) added 10 points, while junior forward Darren Stackhouse (Alexandria, VA/Garrett CC) had nine points and grabbed seven rebounds. Junior guard Chad Myers (Vinton, VA/Hargrave Military Academy) also added nine points and freshman guard Thomas Carr (Toledo, OH/ Hargrave Military Academy) had seven points and dished out a game-high seven assists.

Omar London scored 10 points to pace Bluefield State. Corey Love added 14 and Carlos Vanhook had 11. Chawn Martin also hit in double digits with 10 points. Love also tied Stackhouse for game-high rebounding honors with seven boards.

Shepherd improves to 7-11 overall, 5-4 in WVIAC play, while Bluefield State falls to 0-17, 0-8. The Rams complete their two-game road trip on Saturday when they travel to Concord for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
