SHEPHERD UPSETS ALDERSON-BROADDUS
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Junior forward Danley Shank (Pond Bank, PA/Chambersburg HS) scored a game-high 29 points to lead Shepherd University past Alderson-Broaddus, 77-69, in WVIAC men's basketball action at Shepherd on Tuesday night. The Ram win snapped a seven-game losing skid against the Battlers. Shepherd's last win against the Battlers was an 85-80 win in February 2001.
Shank scored 13 of his points in the first half to help the Rams take a 37-29 advantage at the break. Shepherd shot 50 percent from the floor (25-50), including a 53.8 percent (14-26) effort in the first half.
Junior forward Darren Stackhouse (Alexandria, VA/Garrett CC) added 16 points, fueled by a 10-for-10 performance from the charity stripe. Freshman guard Thomas Carr (Toledo, OH/ Hargrave Military Academy) added 12 points and seven rebounds, while senior guard Ron Rheinhardt (Bowie, MD/Archbishop Carroll HS) came off the bench to grab a game-high nine rebounds and toss in seven points.
Joe Roberts led the Battlers with 15 points on a 7-of-10 shooting effort. Derrick Bell and Stephen Dye added 14 points each. Mike Tucker hauled down a team-high five rebounds. Dye broke the WVIAC career three-point mark with four triples. Dye (381 treys) surpasses the old mark of 378 held by Mike Taylor of West Virginia State.
Shepherd improves to 5-10 overall, 3-3 in WVIAC play, while Alderson-Broaddus falls to 10-4, 3-2. The Rams return to action on Thursday when they host WVU Tech for an 8:00 p.m. contest.
