Prior to SC: Standout at Walshingham Academy (VA). Averaged 12.8 and 8.0 rebounds as a senior. A native of Finland, he was a member of the Finnish Jr. National Team.

Personal: Born 3-26-82. The son of Jouni and Anna-Kaisa Koivula. A 2001 graduate of Walshingham Academy (VA), Koivula is majoring in business administration.
